F Light Florence Light Festival

Florence becomes brighter and lighter with its churches, towers, piazzas and monuments turning into targets of illumination. In locations all over the city light will take center stage with projections, light shows and games and educational activities.

Following last year’s popular F-Light Festival, organizers have extended the event past Christmas and into January.

The season’s kickoff begins when the mayor lights the big fir trees in Palazzo Vecchio and Piazza Duomo. (December 8, Palazzo Vecchio 5 pm, Piazza Duomo 6 pm).For the following month residents and visitors can look forward to many activities dedicated to families and children including video mapping which turns familiar Florentine landmarks into display surfaces for light projections.

Ponte Vecchio oers its surface to host an incredible video mapping project dedicated to the meaning and representation of light concept in arts through canvas, metals, jewels and glass windows by artists such as Taddeo Gaddi, Raaello,  Caravaggio, Van Gogh, Giacomo Balla, Emile Nolde, Andy Warhol and Dan Flavin. This is a collection of images to astonishingly and lightly get familiar with art history and list your favorite masterpieces.
The stones and marbles of the Santa Croce basilica façade are lighted up by the “Tunable White”, a lighting system that allows managing the chromatic output playing with the shades of white, warm-cold-on-off.
The flooring of the popular loggia del Porcellino includes lighting installations. Child-hood, the puer aeternus in arts and news are the focus of this multimedia project devel-oped by Giancarlo Cauteruccio, Stefano Fomasi and Sergio Risaliti.
Some of most important monuments of the city,Loggia dei Lanzi, Fontana del Nettuno, Torre San Niccolò, Torre della Zecca, are lighted up with warm and bright lights and the atmosphere is even more magical!
