Notti di Luce (Nights of Light) – X edition

Bergamo, 26th August – 7th September 2008
light, words and music

On 3rd July Parco della Triennale di Milano housed the official presentation of the tenth edition of Notti di Luce (Nights of Light), the festival organized by Bergamo Chamber of Commerce, which will take place from 26 th August to 7th September in Bergamo.
In occasion of the presentation of the festival, in the seat of Triennale di Milano – Design Museum, was presented the original show of music, theater and light Musiche dalle Città Invisibili (Musics from the Invisibile Cities), inspired by the successful exhibition that Triennale di Milano dedicated to Calvino’s Invisible Cities in 2002-2003, on the occasion of the thirty anniversary since the release of the famous novel.

In the show Musiche dalle Città Invisibili jazz music and theater melt together thanks to Claudio Angeleri’s musical compositions, inspired to the eleven cities described in the novel, and to the direction of Oreste Castagna.

The protagonist of the event – starting on 26 th August, Saint Alexander’s Day, the city’s patron, and common thread running through the different editions of Notti di Luce, up to 7th September – is light, which will enlighten the most important architectural beauties of the city thanks to the contribution of Enzo Catellani, Walter Barbero and Domenico Egizi and the architectural show lights of Clay Paky, a company from Bergamo that is the leader in the technical-light field.

The calendar of events is very rich (12 different shows) where light, words and music will creatively talk to each other in Bergamo’s wonderful architectural frame.

Many artists are involved: from pop/jazz music with Roby Facchinetti (6th September), Fabio Concato (5th September) and Rossana Casale (1st September), to classical music with Orchestra Sinfonia Bucarest (7th September) and organ concerts (3rd September); there will be again, as in 2007, a tribute to Duke Ellington’s jazz with Ellington’s Suites with the exclusive accompaniment of Notti di Luce Orchestra (4th September) directed by Gabriele Comeglio, and also shows for children and families and – this edition great news – a Magic Festival with the show of the great illusionist David Cats (2nd September) and the Magic Nights.

There will be also a retrospective photographic exhibition, which will be set in the City Hall and Chamber of Commerce’s courtyards and on the Sentierone boulevard, by the photographer Gianfranco Rota, that will retrace the ten years of Notti di Luce.

All shows will take place in the places indicated also in case of rain. Entrance is free with the exception of the shows of 1st and 2nd September. Takings will be allocated for charity to the “Poor refectory of Padri Cappuccini of Bergamo”. Tickets will be sold at the Convento dei Frati Cappuccini, in via Cappuccini, and at CDpM – Centro Didattico produzione Musica.
