ECOMONDO project manager Alessandra Astolfi adds, "At the last edition, the expo attracted 57,907 trade and industry members. This trade fair is an extraordinary event for networking on innovations and the potential of this continually expanding sector, with the highest investment and profit forecasts over the next ten years."

Open to trade members and the general public, ECOMONDO 2008 hosts 1,000 companies in 70,000 square metres divided into twelve halls (featuring the widest possible range of technological opportunities, systems, equipment and services, which, starting from a showcase dedicated to the core issue of recovery and re-use of waste, extends widely to cover all the environmental issues).

In 2008, ECOMONDO also proposes COOPERAMBIENTE, an space dedicated to the cooperative offer of energy and services for the environment, in collaboration with Legacoop; and then RECLAIM EXPO, the first Italian show on environmental remediation; plus ORO BLU (Blue Gold) on the recovery and re-use of wastewater; and INERTECH, the expo area dedicated to inert construction waste; THE ISLAND OF SUSTAINABLE PURCHASES, an archipelago of manufacturers and producers of green products for day-to-day use; and yet again, METAL-ECO, which focuses on the world of ferrous and non-ferrous metals; the SUSTAINABLE TOWNS space; the area on WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment); and the ECOMONDO AIR and RISKS & SAFETY sections.

Also planned, an impressive program of scientific seminars. "Heading for a culture of responsibility – Combining Environment, Technical Aspects and Ethics" is the topic for 2008, with the coordination of Luciano Morselli, who also thought up the expo’s mascot, a green bee, symbol of the "environmental emergency".

Alongside, events (such as the Science Cafés), thematic exhibitions for trade members and citizens (e.g. ECOFATTO), educational routes (which this year also include a partnership with Walt Disney).

There is a very wide international front for ECOMONDO 2008, which also proposes Green Ventures, the largest exchange of international cooperation for companies in the environment and energy sectors, which after Germany and China, arrives in Italy.

Simultaneously with ECOMONDO, there will be the 3rd edition of the triennial SALVE waste vehicle exhibition; the 3rd RI3 on the recovery of IP waste ( and the 2nd KEY ENERGY on sustainable energy (
